Preparing for Transition

September was an encouraging and edifying month. We were ministered to at each church we visited. We visited:

  • The Refuge Baptist Church Plainfield, IN - Pastors Jonathan Woodring and Cody Right.
  • Madison Ave Missionary Baptist Church Kentwood, MI - Pastor Nate Lowe.
  • Hyde Park Baptist Church West Monroe, LA - Pastor Trey Emory.

September looks slower but God did as much this month as he’s been doing all along. We started out with The Refuge Baptist in Plainfield. We participated in their Share your Story series where we were interviewed about what brought us to a point of realizing that God was leading us to Utah. It was a wonderful time to share with them, we are thankful for the Woodring family for their support throughout our Marriage and my ministry.

We went the following week to Kentwood, MI, and had a wonderful time there with Bro. Nate Lowe and his church. The week prior to this visit my wife Lourdes had a death in her family. She was unable to travel to Peru and be with her family during this time. Not being able to be with her family as they were mourning was difficult but it also made our time together on Sunday worshiping as a family even sweeter than normal. Thankful for this church ministering to us through their service. We prayed for God’s grace during this time, as I was praying, Emilia start saying grace for the first time, that was a sweet way of God’s showing his love to Lourdes.

The following weekend we traveled down to West Monroe - Louisiana and visited to be with Hyde Park Baptist for their Annual Missions Conference. What an encouraging time that was. We were one of three missionary families there that weekend. We enjoyed sharing time with Bro. Kurt Neeley and his family who serve in Foristell, Missouri as well as Bro. Trey Campbell and his family who are sent out by Hyde Park to begin an MBSF ministry at Louisiana Tech. Please join me in praying for these men, their families and their ministries. We are especially thankful to the Emory family for their hospitality as we flew down for the conference and did not have a vehicle. They made sure we got everywhere we needed to go that weekend, and ministered to our family as well.

The last Sunday in September was spent with our sending church as this would be our last opportunity to be with them this year. We had a wonderful Sunday with them, they had a special time of prayer for us following the morning service and I was given the opportunity to preach during the evening service. At the end of September I left my full time secular job to transition to full time deputation. I am very thankful to have had the job I had as I began deputation. The job offered flexibility to allow me to travel often, however I could only do both so long. We, along with our church, believe that the time for me to commit to full time deputation is now. We are going to be spending all of October and November in the south, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. We have already started making appointments but still have open slots if anybody is interested. We are looking forward to visiting several state and local associational meetings. We are thankful to be at this point and one step closer to making it onto the field in Utah. Please pray for my family, as we make this transition, that God would provide our needs and keep us safe as we travel.

“but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.” 1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬-‭16‬

Join me this month in praying for the LDS (Latter Day Saints) or Mormon community. September has been a difficult month for many LDS people. Starting with the high profile assassination of Charlie Kirk on their turf, followed the death of their president and the  intentional shooting and burning of one of their Wards in Michigan on the same day. Many LDS are hurting during this time, many in the Valley I seek to minister in are hurting. My heart desires to be there now to be ministering to that immediate need. While it is my desire to be there as soon as possible I want to go in God’s timing and know that if I do I will be getting there right on time. My prayer request for you is that you will pray for the Bible preaching, Gospel believing churches and pastors in this area as they are met with such a big need. Peter tells us to be ready always to give an answer of the hope that we have in Christ Jesus. He tells us earlier in the same book that our hope is rooted in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Since Jesus is alive, our hope is alive! Pray with me that as many are searching for answers or hope in their hurting that God would embolden evangelicals in the valley to be prepared to give and answer for the hope and that he would create divine appointments for them to have the opportunity. Then ask yourself, are you ready to give an answer of the hope that you have? Are you sanctifying God in your heart. Remember that God is on his throne and everything is subject to him, when we truly believe that then he will be sanctified and we will have home.
