Near and Far

During the Month of August, between driving and flying, I traveled approximately 8,000 miles across 7 states. I am thankful for God’s protection, and provision for our family.

  • Brookside Missionary Baptist Church in Shelby Township, MI - Pastor Jason Jackson.
  • Eastern Baptist Association Meeting at Madison Ave. MBC in Kentwood, MI.
  • Greggton Missionary Baptist Church in Longview, TX - Pastor Roger Bynog Jr.
  • Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise, Tx - Pastor Pete Underwood.
  • Calvary Baptist Church in Orlando, FL - Pastor Steve Rutherford.
  • First Thonotosassa Missionary Baptist Church in Thonotosassa, FL - Pastor Josh Simpson.
  • Hillcrest Baptist Church in Acworth, GA - Pastor Mike Maxwell.

We are very thankful for each of these churches for their hospitality, generosity and prayer over us.

We started the month with a quick trip up to Michigan where we enjoyed being with and sharing with Brookside MBC and her pastor Bro. Jason Jackson. We then headed to the other side of the state to attend a portion of the EBA Meeting and enjoyed a great time of fellowship and preaching.

The second weekend of the month I was able to take a solo trip to Texas to visit two churches. Jason Enochs, the youth pastor of Greggton in Longview was a great host from the time I landed in Dallas. His church was gracious to me and listened eagerly as I shared my burden for Utah.

That Sunday Evening he drove me down to visit Landmark in Mt. Enterprise. Their Pastor Pete Underwood had noticed the shirts my family and I had worn at the ABA national meeting which said “Hope of the Gospel to the Utah Valley” and had copies made and sold within their congregation. This was a surprise to me and a great encouragment. It amazes me the creativity of God’s people.

Following my time in Texas my wife and I took a a quick four day weekend trip to Utah to spend some more time in the Provo - Orem Area. We had a wonderful time getting to know the area better, we visited the local farmers market and had several great conversations with locals, and a saw openness to spiritual topics. We also were able to visit four different congregations on Sunday, and meet their pastors. In an area of around 212,000 combined populations there are only four Baptist church’s. We are encouraged and thankful for what they are doing but there is a need for more. Please pray with us that we will be able to have another longer visit to Utah this Winter possible around February.

After returning from Utah, we loaded up and headed to Florida, we had a wonderful time visiting and sharing with Calvary BC and First Thonotosassa MBC  We were also able to relax and enjoy some needed family time. On our way back from Florida we stopped in Acworth, GA.  We had a wonderful time with Hillcrest Baptist Church.  I am thankful for this church and their love for missions. I specifically am thankful for their leadership in the Outreach Bible Project which God used to nurture and grow my interest in missions when I was younger and taught me valuable evangelism techniques through their outreac. I look forward to working with them in 2034 when the Olympics come to Utah.

We wrapped the month up with a planned weekend at home to celebrate my daughter’s 2nd birthday. We are very proud of our daughter, she has loved making new friends at all the churches we’ve visited. She has been so flexible and gracious with us over the last 8 months of travel. We are thankful for the friends and family that made her birthday special. While working during the week and traveling every weekend we are learning to schedule important family time.  At the end of the month,  I had the privilege to preach at my home church, it was good to be with them.

And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.” Ezekiel‬ ‭37‬:‭3‬ ‭

The Sunday I preached at my sending church I preached out or Ezekiel 37. The house of Israel had lost hope and were as dried up bones. God asked Ezekiel if they could live again and Ezekiel replied “O Lord GOD, thou knowest.” What a display of faith! Ezekiel was acknowledging that if it could be done it could only be done by God, he was acknowledging that God had the power to do it if He willed. There are many believers today who have lost hope and are living as dried up bones do you believe that God has the power to breathe new life into them? Maybe that is you, do you believe God can revive your spirit?  He can I pray that each of us will let him.
