We returned to Arkansas the first week of February and were thankful to settle back into the mission home at Mt. Zion MBC in Malvern, AR. After missing two Sundays due to weather and sickness, it was refreshing to worship together as a family before resuming travel.
That evening we visited Calvary in Magnolia, I am greatful for the opportunity and the fellowship. I thank God for this church’s investment in Indiana, having sent missionaries to start two churches in Bloomington and Hope, Indiana. We were also thankful to be invited to Oak Grove, a church connected to three of my former pastors, and welcomed at Emmanuel in Malvern, where there are longstanding ties to my home church. Many of our original members—including my dad’s family—came from the Malvern/Hot Springs area when General Motors relocated families to Indiana, making this visit especially meaningful. It amazes me how God moves people to accomplish his will.
Later in the month, we were welcomed into Calvary in Ozark and Bethel in Paris, my pastor’s home church. Calvary hosted a chili cook-off, a City Reach fundraiser after the service, providing a sweet time of fellowship. Visiting Bethel was a special blessing, as I have heard my pastor speak highly of them for years.
We thank the Lord for the connections He has given us in ministry and for each church that has encouraged us along the way.
We finished the month visiting Concord MBC in Omaha, TX, ahead of the Mission Conference at Nevill's Chapel in Mount Pleasant, TX. Concord was warm and engaged as I presented, which is always encouraging. The Mission Conference was a tremendous blessing. We saw God move in a mighty way, particularly in the area of intercultural ministry, for which I praise Him. After the Friday evening service, Bro. Shawn commented that our fellowship included people from America, Mexico, Peru, Honduras, El Salvador, Japan, the Philippines - and even a redneck. It was a reminder that the Gospel tears down barriers. There is something truly beautiful about witnessing unity in Christ in the midst of cultural diversity.
A Generation on Mission
One special blessing this month was the number of youth activities I was able to participate in. After three weeks of planning and preparation, my wife, daughter, and I had the opportunity to race cars in an Awana Grand Prix at Mt. Zion. We were thankful to be included.
I also had the privilege of sharing our burden and encouraging young people to consider God's plan for their future at two youth rallies: first with the Macedonia Association, the group I grew up attending church camp with, and then with the Mount Hope Association, where my pastor is from. Both meetings were a blessing, especially seeing young people step up in leadership and service. Not only am I grateful for these opportunities, but l am also looking forward to two mission-focused youth rallies in March - one in person and one virtual. I continue to pray for the next generation as God prepares them for this ever-changing world. They need the support, counsel, and love of seasoned saints. My prayer is that they will see the Gospel continue to advance into new and unreached areas, and that they will be examples of Christlike conduct and love in every area of their lives.
"Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine." 1 Timothy 4:12-13
